Pride Haven, a program of SAVE, Inc., will open as an overnight shelter effective Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Pride Haven opened as a youth drop in center in January 2020. The building, located at 3109 Campbell St; Kansas City, MO; 64109; was originally called SAVE Home and served as a residential facility. In late 2019, it was renovated to serve a vulnerable underserved population in the Kansas City metro area: transition-aged youth, aged 18-24, facing homelessness. Primarily, Pride Haven’s base are those in the LGBTQIA+ community, but the facility provides a safe and affirming space for all guests. It has operated as a drop-in shelter for the last 16 months, providing a variety of supportive services.
“By providing the most basic need of housing to our youth, Pride Haven will be better able to help them on their way to accomplishing their goals,” says Blaine Proctor, SAVE, Inc. CEO. “We are excited to more adequately serve this population and continue to expand our services for those in need.”
SAVE, Inc. is also excited to announce the addition of seven new staff members to the Pride Haven team. These new team members will join the existing staff to provide life skills and case management services to youth. Services provided at Pride Haven include case management, meal & budget planning, housing & job assistance, medical & mental health referrals and more.
Pride Haven worked extensively with the Ali Forney Center in New York City, New York, to develop best practices for operation. The Ali Forney Center is the nation’s largest agency dedicated to LGBTQIA+ homeless youths in the country and has led the way in advocacy to protect LGBTQIA+ youths from the harms of homelessness.
